Lake Naivasha National Park

Lake Naivasha National Park Overview

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, located approximately 90 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. Surrounded by dramatic escarpments, green landscapes, acacia woodland, and fertile farmland, the lake is one of Kenya’s most scenic destinations. Its freshwater environment supports a remarkable variety of wildlife and birdlife, making it an excellent stop between Nairobi, Lake Nakuru, and the Maasai Mara.

Wildlife & Biodiversity

Lake Naivasha is particularly known for its large population of hippos, which can often be seen resting in the water or along the lake’s shores. The surrounding area also supports giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, warthogs, and other wildlife.

The lake is also an important birdwatching destination, with numerous species found around the water and surrounding vegetation. Visitors may encounter African fish eagles, pelicans, herons, kingfishers, cormorants, flamingos, and many other waterbirds.

The nearby Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary provides an opportunity to explore a wildlife-rich area on foot, where animals such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and antelopes can be observed without the need for a traditional vehicle-based game drive.
